Judi Tuerck earned her BSN at the University of Oregon School of Nursing and her Masters in Community Health Systems from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). She worked for more than 25 years both as the coordinator of the metabolic clinic at OHSU and as newborn screening follow up coordinator for the NW Regional Program. She continues to provide education and quality assurance to the practitioners in Oregon and the NW Region.
Ms. Tuerck served as chair person for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI, formerly NCCLS) to develop follow up guidelines for newborn screening programs (both blood spot and hearing) in 2004 and is co-chairing a similar CLSI committee to develop screening guidelines for sick and premature infants. In 2001, she received a CDC grant which funded the development of a database for the long term follow up of infants identified through newborn screening, now in use in a number of programs. She is serving a second term as a U.S. representative to the Council of the International Society for Neonatal Screening (ISNS) and is a member of multiple other committees. She officially retired from OHSU in 2007, but continues to work as a consultant in newborn screening.
